~Road Test Tuesday ~Soul Foods (Newcastle)!

Road Test Tuesday ~Soul Foods (Newcastle)

I’ve been remiss, you guys, in sharing this amazing place with you.  It’s a little piece of organic heaven located right in the heart of Newcastle.  It’s Soul Foods  and located in the old KFC building facing Hunter Street.

Now, let me tell you that the Dancing Daughter and I have been there several times for breakfast and we mentioned it to dear  hubby as a destination for breakfast, our favourite meal of the day.  I could tell that he wasn’t enamoured by the idea of something that may be weird and “out there” organic, but when we took him for breakfast, and he had scrambled eggs and bacon on sourdough, he declared that they were the best eggs he had ever had.

On that visit I had poached eggs (of course) as did the Dancing Daughter with INCREDIBLY delicious Haloumi cheese

When I asked the Dancing Daughter where she would like to go for our girlie pre-birthday breakfast, she once again chose Soul  Foods and it did not disappoint, even excelling my expectations!

While I opted for my favourite poached eggs, Chelsea had scrambled this time and, after a taste, I can say that now I have egg envy and will order scrambled next time!

Fluffy and done to perfection, the taste of these amazing organic free range eggs is totally worth the cost!  Last time I was there I also purchased a ricotta and pumpkin bake for lunch that I devoured before I could photo for you (sorry!) and this time Chelsea walked away with some organic salad dressing and cinnamon based chocolate.

Soul Foods has an eclectic dining area that is inviting with cushions and tables and chairs for all heights and social situations.

A quirky feel is evident in the chalkboard where it welcomes people to a challenge of licking their elbow (you KNOW everyone tries it after they read this, right?  Right?  I’m not alone here, am I?)

The owner, Megan, is a downright sweet heart and delivers all meals with a big smile and a chat.  The display cabinet of goodies is impressive

Maybe there was a subconscious reason I didn’t share this place with you earlier…….I wanted it to remain my little secret but can no longer hand out on you!

Soul Foods Newcastle~9/10 – Amazing food, great atmosphere, friendly staff and a wide selection.  The only reason it is not 10/10 is because it can be a bit pricey compared to other cafe breakfasts but – you get what you pay for! It’s a definite favourite on our restaurant rotation.
